Gene's place is a cozy little bar owned by, you guessed it, Gene. Drinks are cheap, the atmosphere isn't too wild or crazy, and you will be supporting a real independent bar by going here. Gene is usually in during the busier parts of the night. He's a bit of a legend around Pitts campus. Also 5 dollar 22oz long island tea Tuesdays are the best days in my opinion.
You have to love quaint little places like this. It has character on a small town bar in the city atmosphere. The owner Gene is warm, friendly, and down to earth. Check Gene's out for a hearty good time at affordable prices.
Gene's Place is awesome - my go to spot for just sitting down and having a beer. Definitely the bar in Oakland with the most chill atmosphere in my opinion - I really like that I can always find a place to sit (it gets more crowded on Trivia Night, but I have never had an issue with this) and it's not so loud that I have trouble carrying a conversation which is a problem I have with some other bars. And the bartenders/bouncers are all pretty rad. Definitely recommend.
One of the best college dive bars, if you’re looking for cheap drinks this is the spot.
A true dive bar. Cheapest drinks in the area, small town vibes, and the bartender more often than not: Gene. He's the nicest guy and he's made a home for college student and professors alike. I've found the patrons at Gene's are among the nicest you'll find in the area. Come for Trivia Night on Wednesdays, but get there early. Come for the 22oz long islands on Tuesdays. If you're brave, come for the 1 shots from 5-7 on Fridays.
